Mari Carmen Abascal, an 87-year-old woman evicted from her Madrid apartment after more than 70 years because she could not afford rent increases, died in a Madrid hospital. Her death, whose circumstances are not yet known, prompted protests, including a 300-to-400-person gathering near Congress demanding affordable housing.
