Category 4 Hurricane Simon was expected to make landfall on Mexico’s Pacific coast overnight into Sunday morning, threatening Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Nayarit, and Puerto Vallarta. Residents filled sandbags, emergency forces deployed, some flights were suspended, and President Claudia Sheinbaum said non-essential activities in the affected Mexican states would be suspended from 4 PM Saturday, Mexico City time.
