Nothing To Discover

Now a traveler tells Claude or ChatGPT that they are going to Paris for five days and asks what to do from morning to evening, then follows the plan. Based on all their chats, it knows they will like wine here and cheese there. A computer is telling the traveler how to spend the whole vacation, and there is nothing to discover anymore.

Use It Or Lose It

The mind works like the body: anything not used wastes. Lie in bed for 20 days and you will not be able to walk, and hospitals rehabilitate people from exactly that. Math shows the pattern. Kids used to be proud to answer 17 times 13, and now people reach for the calculator. People no longer remember phone numbers either.

India's Position

The risk is larger for India, which does not have the foundational models, is not making the robots, and is not getting the capital deployment. India is a consumer of AI and not a creator of it.

Why does outsourcing memory weaken it?

A 2011 study in Science by Betsy Sparrow and colleagues found that when people expected to look something up later, they remembered the information less well and remembered where to find it better. Researchers call this cognitive offloading. A 2020 study by Louisa Dahmani and Veronique Bohbot in Scientific Reports found that people who used GPS more had worse spatial memory when navigating without it.

How does bed rest weaken the body?

In a 2007 study published in JAMA, Kortebein and colleagues had healthy older adults stay in bed for ten days. Their leg lean mass and strength dropped. Astronauts lose muscle in orbit as well, which is why they exercise about two hours a day on the International Space Station.

More from Tomorrow, Today

Tech & AIColonization is now algorithmicColonization once meant grabbing resources, then boundaries, then identity. Now it is algorithmic expansion: whatever the builder thinks is right gets enforced on everyone using the model.
