Muse was downloaded three million times in about 10 days. Meta said its design was heavily inspired by OpenClaw, the agent that drew attention in January.
The app is free. It can triage an email inbox, book flights, and book hotels.
Meta released Muse on September 22, in the same stretch in which Anthropic, OpenAI, and xAI released new models. Amazon said this week that it needs to block agents like these, and it has taken action before, starting with Perplexity.
How can an AI agent book a flight?
An agent is a language model connected to tools that let it act, such as a browser or a booking system's API. It breaks the request into steps, calls a tool for each one, and reads the result before choosing the next step. Anthropic introduced the Model Context Protocol in November 2024 as an open standard for connecting models to such tools. Where no API exists, an agent can operate a website's pages the way a person would.
Why would a retailer block shopping agents?
Marketplaces earn substantial revenue from advertising shown on their search results pages. Amazon reported about 47 billion dollars in advertising revenue for 2023, according to its annual report. An agent that goes straight to a product skips those sponsored listings. Retailers also use bot defenses such as rate limits and robots.txt files, a convention dating to 1994, to control automated visitors.
