Paid ChatGPT users on the Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans are due to get the model soon. Greg Brockman said OpenAI has entered the AGI era.

Sam Altman told the G20 Summit on Wednesday that much more capable models are coming soon and that the next generation of models will be sobering for everyone. He added that no intellectually honest person can look at what is happening and not feel the weight of responsibility ahead.

On Polymarket, OpenAI's odds of having the best AI model by the end of 2026 jumped from low single digits to over 20%.

How do prediction market odds work?

On Polymarket, traders buy shares in an outcome, and each share pays one dollar if the outcome happens and nothing if it doesn't. A share trading at 20 cents therefore implies the market sees about a 20 percent chance. The price moves as traders buy and sell on new information. The odds are the money-weighted guesses of traders, not a formal forecast.

Why do labs release models to limited groups first?

A staged release lets a lab watch for misuse and failures before millions of people have access. OpenAI said it spent six months on safety work and testing before releasing GPT-4 in March 2023. Early partners also report problems that internal testing missed. Limited releases have since become a common pattern across AI labs.

Where did the term AGI come from?

Physicist Mark Gubrud used the phrase artificial general intelligence in a 1997 paper about military technology. The term became widely used in the early 2000s after Shane Legg suggested it to Ben Goertzel, who was editing a book on the subject. Goertzel and Cassio Pennachin published that book in 2007 under the title Artificial General Intelligence. There is still no single agreed definition of what counts.
