The headline audit

Many sites have poor design and branding, and a basic audit shows the first problems: whether the traffic mix is known, whether the site is mobile optimized, and whether the main call to action is a scroll and a half down. Even an AI SaaS niche product that is hard to explain needs messaging that holds up for a person scrolling with a thumb.

The same frame applies through the whole funnel, in the creative and the copy as well as the page.

Page speed

Page speed matters because it is one of the core elements that gets a site into a top-10 Google position, and for AEO. A bot crawler makes a cheap call to see how long the page took to load. A site graded low, on a scale from A to F, won't load immediately for the average person in the world, so any second improved is a drastic jump in conversion, and even half a second against 200 milliseconds makes a difference. App store screenshots are among the micro levers that compound.

Why does a slow page lose visitors?

A 2017 Google analysis found that the chance of a mobile visitor leaving rose 32 percent as load time went from one second to three seconds. At five seconds the figure was 90 percent. Page speed also became a Google ranking signal for mobile search in 2018.

How do people read a web page?

Nielsen Norman Group's 2006 eye-tracking study reported an F-shaped reading pattern on text-heavy pages. Readers scanned across the top, then partway across a second line, then down the left side. The pattern means headlines and the first words of lines get the most attention. The group later noted that the pattern varies with page layout.
