Martin Camacho, Suno's CTO, built the entire Suno model from the ground up. He answered the question without missing a beat.

Suno is a consumer product, and the product is the experience and the interface, the way Spotify's is. How the music gets made is hidden from the user, who couldn't care less what gets it there.

Investors putting money in at a $5 billion valuation are betting on a Spotify disruptor, a move from a creation tool to a consumption tool that takes on Spotify and Apple Music.

How did streaming overtake music downloads?

Spotify launched in Sweden in 2008 and offered a free, ad-supported tier alongside a paid one. Access to a huge catalog on demand proved more convenient than buying individual tracks. The Recording Industry Association of America reported that in 2015, streaming became the largest source of US recorded-music revenue, passing digital downloads. Apple Music launched in June 2015.

Why can a product swap its engine unseen?

Products separate the interface users touch from the systems behind it, with defined connections between the two. As long as the connection keeps working, engineers can replace what sits behind it. Netflix moved its streaming service from its own data centers to Amazon Web Services between 2008 and 2016, finishing in January 2016. Subscribers kept watching throughout.

How do AI music generators learn songs?

Generative music models are trained on large collections of audio, learning patterns of melody, rhythm, timbre, and vocals. Many compress audio into sequences of discrete tokens that a transformer model then predicts one after another, much as a language model predicts words. Others use diffusion, which starts from noise and refines it into sound. Text descriptions of style can steer what the model generates.
