Jason Calacanis, an investor, said the most specific job-loss forecast came from Dario Amodei of the AI company Anthropic: 50% of entry-level office jobs would disappear within a year because of artificial intelligence. Calacanis said that one-year mark has now passed. Calacanis said Amodei has never said he was wrong and has doubled down, while Sam Altman, who runs OpenAI, said he had been too negative.

Investor David Friedberg said there is still no evidence of net job loss years into the AI boom, only net job creation. In his own account, which is not verified data, Friedberg said that adopting AI on his team generated added business that led him to add staff to support the strongest users. He said he now has seven job openings.

Questions people ask

What do official jobs numbers show since the forecast?

Government employment reports have continued to show net job gains through the AI boom. Those reports count total jobs, so they do not prove AI created the gains, only that broad losses have not appeared in the totals.

What is an entry-level office job in this debate?

It usually means recent graduates in office roles centered on reading, writing, coding, research, or customer support. Those tasks overlap with what chatbots do well, which is why the roles were seen as exposed.

Why would AI tools lead a company to hire more people?

The claim is that faster output wins more clients and projects, which then requires coordinators, sellers, and specialists. Past office tools like spreadsheets and email also changed daily work without reducing total employment.
