At the end of 2024, he said, the business had grown to close to $1 billion in run rate revenue, an estimate of yearly sales based on recent results, and it was predicting another large jump.
"That kind of a change is really enabled by these model intelligence leaps and then the products that we build around them," he said.
By model intelligence leaps, he meant sharp gains in what the company's systems could do. The company only had a frontier model, the most capable kind of AI system, "for real for the first time in March of 2024," he said. His argument is that each gain makes the technology useful in new ways, and products built around the smarter system turn that use into revenue.
That forecast drew skepticism. He recalled others looking at the projections and concluding that another tenfold increase was not possible. In his account, the skeptics cited "laws of physics" and argued that enterprise adoption, meaning use by large business customers, would take much longer. "The adoption's going to take so much longer," they said, as he recalled it.
