United's New First Class Has No Overhead Bins
The regional jet stores first-class bags in a locker instead, while economy still fits roller bags overhead.

UpgradedPoints.com · Everything United Showed Off at Its Massive ‘Elevated’ Event in Los AngelesThe most exclusive seats on United's new regional jet come with no place to stash your bag overhead. The first-class cabin on the CRJ450, a smaller jet used for shorter routes, has no overhead bins at all.
Instead, first-class passengers will put their carry-ons in a storage locker, a shared compartment for bags instead of individual bins. It was one of two new planes United displayed at an event at its Los Angeles airport hangar to show its future fleet.
The twist is that passengers farther back get more conventional storage. In the economy cabin on the same jet, the overhead bins are built to fit standard rolling suitcases.
Questions people ask
What is a regional jet?
A regional jet is a smaller airplane, typically with fewer than 100 seats, used for short trips between smaller cities and major hubs. Because the cabin and ceilings are lower than on larger jets, storage space is often tighter.
How does a storage locker work on a plane?
It is essentially a shared closet near the seats where passengers or crew place carry-on bags. On small planes, a locker can save space and weight compared with building full bins above every row.
