Contractor gutted his house
The remodel
The house in Pennsylvania was his home when the channel took off. As he adjusted how much he wanted done, the job kept growing, and the crew stripped the house down to the studs for a remodel. They did no work, stole hundreds of thousands of dollars, and left him living in a rental while they strung him along. A lawsuit followed, and they pleaded guilty to theft.
More betrayals
It was not the only time. Over the next few years, family, close friends, and business partners also took advantage of him in deep, personal ways, and some of it had been an angle from the start.
The vetting
He now keeps a former homicide detective named Antonio as his right-hand man. Antonio started as a house manager, and one of the first things he said was that he did not care about the content and thought it was stupid. He keeps everyone around the creator vetted.
Why do most criminal cases end in guilty pleas?
A 2019 Pew Research Center analysis found that about 90 percent of federal criminal defendants plead guilty rather than go to trial. Prosecutors often offer reduced charges or lighter sentences in exchange, which saves the cost and uncertainty of a trial. Judges must still confirm that a plea is voluntary and that the facts support it. State courts show similarly high plea rates.
Why hire a former homicide detective?
Homicide detectives spend careers interviewing evasive people, checking stories against records, and spotting inconsistencies. Those skills carry over to vetting new contacts and employees, where the work is background checks, public records, and reference calls. Many large companies staff security teams with former investigators for the same reason. The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners' Report to the Nations has estimated that organizations lose about 5 percent of revenue to fraud each year.
