Disneyland's talking trash can

The bullied trash can

The trash can had a nerd voice, and children bullied it. Kids kicked it and whaled on it, and so did adults. Gourley answered in the trash can's voice, asking where their parents were and why nobody was doing anything.

Breakdowns and rescues

The machine broke down all the time. A battery would die in the middle of a shift, and the voice would sag, asking who killed it and whether somebody would save it. When people were about to light it on fire, he had to walk over and blow his cover.

Working alone

It was a one-person job, so he worked alone, and the park often forgot about the trash cans. A man from Florida who built the machine taught the cast how to run it, and the West Coast crew loosened up with it. Gourley flirted with the other trash cans and begged them not to divorce him, as if they'd had a prior relationship.
