Giving up the fancy cars

Doug Leone went through a full cycle. He spoiled himself with material things, realized they didn't make him happy at all, and got rid of a whole bunch of them. He sold the fancy cars at a great discount, because he just wanted them gone, and he wanted a simpler life and the little things in it.

Living with no handlers

He still has toys and doesn't live like a monk, but he lives with no handlers. He has no personal assistant and no one who cleans up after him. He takes his water glass down in the morning and puts it in the dishwasher, cooks in the afternoon, and washes all the pans himself.

Friends who matter

Family and friends are what matter at the end of the day. Most of his friends are people from high school, from college, or from Italy, with blue-collar jobs, and he has maybe two friends in the tech world. One of his closest friends is a cop at the airport in Genoa, where he had just spent a couple of days.
