The most degrading store nearby
One of his early gigs was covering the Walk of Fame. When a star for someone like Don Knotts was coming, he researched the honoree, then went out to find exactly where the star would be placed and which business it would sit in front of, which no one else reported.
Hollywood Boulevard offered plenty of candidates. He chose the most degrading store closest to the spot: Frederick's of Hollywood, a tattoo parlor, and others like them.
He got a phone call asking him to stop naming the stores. He never did. Decades later he has a star of his own, and one of his favorite things is walking visitors from out of town down Hollywood Boulevard to find it.
